The Denominational Healing Workshop is a guided space where leaders from different traditions can face long-standing wounds and move toward a new chapter of relationship and mission. I created this workshop for regional denominational leaders, pastors' fellowships, and inter-church networks that feel the weight of historical splits, theological suspicion, or institutional competition.
I begin by framing denominational difference in light of Scripture and church history, acknowledging both the gifts and the fractures that have emerged over time. With that grounding, I invite participants to name specific stories of division in their region-church plants birthed from conflict, broken pastor relationships, or patterns of avoidance across denominational lines. These conversations are structured, time-bound, and shepherded so that truth can be spoken without descending into accusation.
Drawing from my experience as an elder and pastor in multiple traditions, I then introduce pathways toward healing: practices of corporate confession, reciprocal listening, and modest, trust-building initiatives that do not require immediate structural change. Through facilitated dialogue, leaders identify where repentance, clarification, or simple presence is needed.
The workshop also looks forward. I help participants envision what denominational partnership could look like in their specific context: shared training, joint statements on critical issues, cooperative responses to community crises, or coordinated church planting. Practical tools from my Denominational Collaboration Consulting and Denominational Partnership Planning work are introduced in accessible form.
By the end of the session, leaders will have articulated a short list of agreed-upon next steps, relational commitments, and potential projects that can begin almost immediately. The atmosphere shifts from resignation to guarded hope.
The key benefit of this workshop is that it offers a biblically faithful, pastorally sensitive process for addressing denominational pain without minimizing real convictions. It gives leaders a way to honor their heritage while opening the door to a more united, credible witness to the reconciling power of Jesus Christ.
